UDL: What we have learned so far...

It has been a big few months! Our UDL pilots are in full swing and preparing for their end of the year share out in the spring, more and more non-UDL pilots are experimenting with Universal Design for Learning, and we even had a Universally Designed Science Fair project show up at this year's science fair! #SAC4throcks As early as it may seem to start thinking about next year, we have been asking our pilots many probing questions about the future of our UDL rollout. 

Here is what we know so far:

• Use Universal Design for Learning to roll out Universal Design for Learning
  • Teams need power and choice in how they go about implementing UDL
• Sites need 411 and 911 people and resources
  • Teams need spaces and people to ask UDL questions too as well as people to can directly help them design lessons in the moment
• UDL environmental changes can make a big difference to classroom cultures
  • Small tweaks to an environment make for big changes in student engagement
• UDL development takes time
• UDL has to be seen as a support to the work we already are doing not just additional work
